Healing at Home in Northern Michigan

Each and every time I am out on the Muskegon River, I can feel the weight of my disease lessen. The weight of 20 years of achy, swollen and now deformed joints. The weight of 20 years of debilitating, can’t-even-lift-your-head-off-the-pillow fatigue. The weight of 20 years of pain —  the type of pain that reaches to even the split-ends of your longest hairs and to the deepest branches on your lungs. All of that weight seems to be lifted when I am out on the water. I feel weightless. Free. At Peace. On the river, my Lupus feels as if it never existed…
