“Last Snow” by Gail Wallace Bozzano

…Zoe remembers her father in flashes. She remembers riding high on his shoulders, her fingers buried in his soft springy hair, a deep mahogany brown sprinkled with white. Charles loved snow, used to take her sledding in the park near their house. They had an old-fashioned runner sled and he’d put her in front, then push to get the sled going and hop on behind her and they’d streak down the hill while Zoe whooped with joy. “What I wouldn’t have given to sled like this when I was little,” he used to say. “You are lucky to have this snow.”
