| Meet Ellie, Your Local Female Brewer Ellie Maddelein is the 23-year-old Head Brewer at Five Shores Brewing in Beulah, Michigan. Join us for a Q&A with her on becoming a female brewer. Biggest challenge for stepping into this industry? Being young, female, and inexperienced when I started out definitely was hard but never something that would turn me away from my passion. I am still young and still female, but I have grown in experience and confidence with the years. I will forever be faced with those who see my gender first; however, my beer will always speak for itself. Biggest supporters for you along the way? My biggest supporters have been my parents. To have a young teen tell them she wants to make beer must have been a weird time for them. However, I had bigger ambitions than just drinking. They have since been always excited in what I have been learning, doing, and experiencing. Taking them along on this journey has been one of the most rewarding aspects.
