Medicine, Movement and Mindfulness

Medicine, Movement and Mindfulness by Dr. Tina Metropoulous

Breathing in, I reach up to the sky; breathing out I reach down to the earth. I feel the pull of tight muscles, and try to release and relax into a forward folding pose. As I begin my practice my mind is busy. I think of the things I have to do later, of the things that happened earlier in the day, even about plans coming up months away! But as I ease into the next hour of movement, I notice that stillness and space is created in my typically very active brain. My breathing is softer, easier, and more fluid. As I step off my mat and into the world, I take with me a small piece of this, a bit of mindfulness, and notice that things are a bit more joyful. That I’m a little more present.
